School Strike for Climate Emoji

The Issue

School Strike For Climate Emoji

Emojis have become the language of the modern day. It seems like there is an emoji for everything! Frogs, vampires, balloons, yoga, you name it. But what I don’t see when I text my friends is an emoji that represents the growing youth climate movement.

In August 2018, Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg started the International Movement, Fridays for Future. The Fridays for Future Movement is a coalition of students from around the world that strike for climate action in their community every Friday.

On September 20th, over 4 million students striked school to protest global climate action. In only a year the Fridays for Future movement grew from one child to 4 million students. And the movement is not done growing, it has only begun.

We have seen the power of a petition to Unicode before: In 2018 Unicode adapted an interracial couple emoji after 50,000 signatures on change.org!

With your help we can see this through!

Join me in demanding that Unicode creates a School Strike emoji in recognition of the Fridays for Future movement and the growing youth climate movement.
