Susan Wojcicki, YouTube CEO, Listen to those who made YouTube great or step down!

The Issue

There was a time when YouTube was a free and open market place of skills, ideas, opinions, and information. During this time, channels grew and died based on their own merit or lack thereof. During this golden era of an internet free market, the people were the sole decision makers in determining the success of YouTubers. But, it appears that this golden era is coming to an end. Not due to an inability to flourish on its own, but instead because of decisions made by a handful of elitist decision makers within the YouTube management team.  Under the leadership of Susan Wojcicki, Youtube has begun to abandon the grassroots, bottom up, free market place of ideas that use to defined the platform, and instead has implemented more of a top down approach. The people no longer play as big a role in deciding what videos, or channels succeed or fail, for through the manipulation of algorithms, winners and losers are now ultimately chosen by YouTube. The news category for example, no longer includes videos that the people want to watch, but instead mostly only showcases videos created by main stream media outlets that are specifically placed there by YouTube staff.

As if manipulating the algorithms to enable main stream media outlets and other channels that promote a certain political message to cheat their way to the top wasn’t bad enough, under Susan Wojcicki’s leadership YouTube has made some very puzzling blunders that have severely damaged the reputation of the platform. Due to complaints from SJW’s and phony outrage campaigns launched by main stream media outlets, YouTube has succumbed to the “hate speech” crowd. Now, rather than allowing free speech, YouTube is ridiculously overly sensitive to “hate speech”, which is a politically motivated umbrella term that most often includes videos that have very innocuous, and innocent messages. The various punishments levied onto those deemed hate speechers, or wrong thinkers, has ruined channels and the income of YouTube’s life blood, independent content creators. Wojcicki, has certainly proven that YouTube has the ability to sensor and dramatically reduce the views and revenue of those guilty of wrong think, but at the same time that innocent wrong thinkers are being punished, unbelievably creepy videos of children being tied up by perverts go unscathed by YouTube’s purge and are allowed to get hundreds of millions of views while being monetized all the way through? Wojcicki’s YouTube evidently cares more about demonizing political channels, than channels that take advantage of children? What kind of incompetent leadership is this?

Before wrapping this up, let us speak briefly of the adpocalypse. Main stream media outlets, which are direct competitors of YouTube, created a phony outrage campaign over a video from YouTube’s biggest star that was an obvious joke. This created a bit of a frenzy among advertisers. Wojcicki, did not handle this well. She gave in to the advertiser's and television outlet's demands and began an attempt to regulate YouTube as if it were a TV station. But this is not what the people want. The people watch YouTube precisely because it is not a TV station. YouTube has a massive audience. If advertisers threaten to leave, then let them. They will come back, because YouTube is where the audience is. Advertising on TV can only get you so far because TV is dying. The proper decision for Wojcicki to have made is to call the advertisers bluff and let them leave. If the advertisers want all of YouTube’s eyeballs on their products then they will come back, and YouTube would have emerged stronger after making it clear that phony outrage slander campaigns will not get dying, dinosaur, media outlets anywhere.

Wojcicki either needs to change her ways or be let go, because her priorities are not in the right place and this is hurting YouTube. Instead of caving to the demands of SJW’s and main stream media outlets, YouTube should aim to regulate content as little as possible. Sure, those weird, creepy videos of children tied to the wall, or videos promoting violence, should be taken down, but YouTube should remain a free market of content as much as possible! Attempting to micro-manage, and decide what is acceptable and worthy of success is a big mistake, that YouTube under Wojcicki’s rule has made.

Wojcicki, is presiding over the beginnings of the end of perhaps the greatest platform for the free exchange of information and ideas in world history. Do not give the main stream media, and establishment gatekeepers what they want. We mustn’t allow this great, and wonderful invention to fall any further. Sign the petition. Let us replace Wojcicki with someone that is more concerned with keeping YouTube the great platform that it is, rather than caving to the demands of the extremely loud minority.
