Make Pewdiepie the owner, President and/or CEO of YouTube

The Issue

Pewdiepie (Felix Kjellberg) is the most successful independent content creator on YouTube (and the internet in general). He brings quality original content to millions of 9-year olds (both biological 9-year olds and those who are simply 9-year olds at heart) every single day. Since he began his YouTube account in 2010, Kjellberg became the largest YouTuber in 2013 and has continued to become an influential internet persona around the world.

With these experiences, Kjellberg has become well informed on the YouTube community, internet culture and what role social media and (particularly) YouTube plays in the world today - something that many tech companies, politicians and other groups seem to be entirely disconnected from. For this, look no further than Article 13 in the EU, and the growing number of news articles or statements from politicians that seem to (whether intentionally or unintentionally) completely misunderstand internet culture.

Pewdiepie has also been involved in his fair share of controversies, but unlike other YouTubers (who have been memed for how bad their apologies are), Kjellberg has been up front with his mistakes and accepted the consequences of his actions. Individuals are not perfect, and Pewdiepie does not show present himself to be so.

Due to his past experiences, as well as his track record for handling controversy in an up front and transparent manner, Pewdiepie should be named the owner, President and/or CEO of YouTube, removing Google's disastrous leadership of the once beloved platform and putting into the hands of an individual who is well equipped to manage the future of the platform and bring it back to being the open and creator-centered platform that it used to be instead of the corporate-driven content platform that it has become today.
