We, the citizens of Canada, Indigenous Nations, and international supporters of historical and geographical integrity, demand that Google and Apple immediately reverse their decisions to rename Lake Ontario to "Lake America"  for users within the United States. Lake Ontario has existed for over 11,000 years, carved by glaciers long before either nation was conceived. Its name is derived from the Huron-Wendat word Ontari’io, meaning "beautiful lake," and it holds a sacred place in the heritage of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the Seneca Nation. A political trade war cannot erase millennia of Indigenous and global geography. By adopting a split-view policy—showing "Lake Ontario" to Canadians while displaying "Lake America" to Americans—Google and Apple are actively participating in the corporate manipulation of truth. Mapping platforms have a global responsibility to uphold objective geographical facts. Competitors like MapQuest have already shown corporate integrity by flatly refusing to alter the lake's true name, proving that tech companies do not have to fold to political overreach.Geography belongs to the Earth and its people. By signing this petition, we demand that Google and Apple:Restore the universal name of "Lake Ontario" across all global versions of Google and Apple Maps, regardless of the user's location. Cease the practice of "geofencing" and altering international bodies of water to cater to political trade wars. Respect Indigenous nomenclature, historical treaties, and international border agreements. Corporate algorithms must not be used to rewrite human history. It was, it is, and it will always be Lake Ontario.
