There is no doubt this year has been extremely difficult for many local businesses, and they need your support now more than ever.
We are moving into the winter months, which are difficult for some even in a good year. The holiday season can be essential to break even and keep a business running through the winter.
Farmers, shopkeepers, restaurants, and other small business owners are facing problems with disappearing markets, a lack of summer revenue and overall financial losses, crop failures due to the summer drought, difficulties sourcing products, and other restrictions due to the pandemic.
Luckily, YOU can help to play a part in keeping these vibrant local businesses alive! Pledge to spend at least $100 at a local business while doing your holiday shopping this year, and enter our raffle to win gift certificates from a variety of local businesses!
Skip Amazon. Skip Wal-Mart. Skip the big box stores. Small local businesses need your support more than they do.
- Smaller stores mean smaller crowds. Visit safely at local shops, businesses, and restaurants.
- Buy gift cards! Many stores, restaurants, hotels, and some of the local boat rides offer these. Gift cards are a great way to support local businesses during the pandemic. Save them for later or use them right away - they're great stocking stuffers.
- Check to see if your favorite shops have online ordering, curbside pickup or delivery options. Please shop safely during the holidays!
- Keep your money within the local economy: $68 for every $100 stays in the community when spent at a local business. When spending the same at a non-local business like a national chain, only $43 stays in your community.
- Leave a review on their website! If you have a favorite local business, go ahead and leave them a positive review online! This can help them gain new customers in the future.
- Tell your friends. Word-of-mouth is one of the most common ways someone hears about a local business. Tell your friends about positive experiences you've had at local businesses and encourage them to shop local!
Sign the Midcoast Maine Shop Local Pledge and commit to spending at least $100 at local businesses in the Midcoast while you're doing your holiday shopping this year. Click here to enter a raffle for a chance to win a gift certificate from one of our participating local businesses!
If just 10% of people who live in Rockland spent $100 at small businesses within Rockland, we could easily pump $70,000 into our local economy this season.
10% spending $100 could mean $48,000 for Camden, $34,000 for Rockport, and $28,000 for Thomaston, etc.
Help us to meet this goal! Sign the Midcoast Maine Shop Local Pledge and commit to spending at least $100 at local businesses.
