Freedom of speech is important. However, freedom of speech should not be an excuse to discriminate against groups in society, spread hate speech or abuse your position of privilege. Piers Morgan has crossed a line in recent years, using the idea of free speech as an excuse to spread harmful, discriminatory messages throughout the UK.

We should have the right to media and news coverage which is factual, impartial and informative. Presenters of news shows have a responsibility to present facts, not misinformation and biased opinions. Millions of people's opinions are developed through the way in which information is presented in the media, because surely if someone is a TV presenter, they must be credible - however, Piers Morgan is not.

I knew I had to make a petition after witnessing Piers' reaction to the Meghan and Harry interview. Regardless of your thoughts about the Royal Family, it is undeniable that Piers' response to the interview was nothing short of atrocious. He told all of his viewers that Meghan's comment about feeling suicidal was a lie. Who is he to decide whether someone has genuine mental health problems? It is particularly ironic when he played such a huge part in using his privileged position in the media to insult, criticise and dehumanise Meghan during her time in the Royal Family. He refused to consider that the Royal Family and the monarchy are rooted in racism and colonialism, and thus refused to consider that the unfair treatment of Meghan could also be rooted in racism - he even failed to consider this after Harry and Meghan's comment that they were questioned over 'how dark' their child would be.

On countless other occasions, Piers has been transphobic, anti-feminist, critical of female bodies and generally offensive to minorities and others in society. This is not what the media should be. ITV and Good Morning Britain should be ashamed that they have kept a man like this in a position to influence the public in a way which promotes discrimination.

Get rid of Piers Morgan, and we will be one step closer to building a more tolerant society which strives for equality.
