Golf Channel and GolfNow: Stop the negative portrayal of golf course pricing in recent advertising

The Issue

As a vital member of the golf industry, Golf Channel and its subsidiary, GolfNow, works regularly with golf course owners to promote the game of golf. However, in recent advertising, GolfNow refers to pricing by course owners as “preposterous” in order to promote the discounted, reselling of tee times with their product. This form of negative advertising only hampers the golf course owners that Golf Channel and GolfNow should be working with, not against, to promote the golf industry as a whole.

Recently, the growth of online tee-time resellers has forced golf course owners and operators to adjust how their businesses traditionally operated in the golf industry. The purpose of this petition is not to infringe on the existence of 3rd-party tee time resellers, but rather to insist on a respectful and accurate form of advertising that does not portray golf course owners and operators in a negative light by calling their pricing structures “preposterous.”

The owners and operators of golf courses ask that the Golf Channel and GolfNow reconsider airing their current advertisement and related messages that has golfing icon Old Tom Morris referring to traditional tee time pricing as “preposterous” and work with golf course owners and operators in the Best Practices as issued by the National Golf Course Owners Association.
