GoFundMe has a petition started by a "professional hunter" (also known as thrill killers) Salome De Villers. The goal is to raise $100,000.00 during the COVID-19 pandemic. First of all, this is an activity in which most of these killers, if not all are white privileged individuals. While people are losing their jobs, unable to pay their rent or put food on their table during this global pandemic, these thrill killers have the audacity to request money to travel to Africa to kill wildlife. Humans killing animals is NOT conservation nor is it a sport, which is contradictory in itself. "Hunters" refer to it as a sport, but also refer to it conservation. It is not and cannot be both. Furthermore, Africa is one of the continents with the most natural resources in the world, it is due to individuals like these "hunters" that many African countries are deprived of their own resources. Paying to ship the head or body of an exotic animal to a different continent is not a sport or conservation. GoFundMe should not have allowed this fundraiser. It is immoral to allow this given the financial crisis so many families are facing. Although, people are allowed to do whatever they want with their money, it is despicable and shameful that GoFundMe would allow this This is no different than having a fundraiser that allows the killing of cats and dogs or any other action considered immoral by society's standards. Allowing this, you are complicit. This should be a platform to raise money for causes where financial help is needed and crucial.
