The Issue

All pedestrians living or visiting Goater Way, Edwards Drive or Holloway Mews, which include many parents with young children and pushchairs, have to run the gauntlet crossing into Mortimers Lane.

Mortimers Lane (B3037) is a busy road with NO pedestrian crossing in place anywhere along it. With over 200 properties within Goater Way, Edwards Drive and Holloway Mews, there is considerable pedestrian movement, especially with parents taking children to school, preschool and to shop in the local village.

Due to the location of the entrance/exit of Goater Way, it is prone to cars accelerating after turning into Mortimers Lane (B3037) from Winchester Road (B3354), MANY of which are speeding.

The layout of the approved development means that there is only one pathway approaching Mortimers Lane from Goater Way, and there is no pathway to turn right from Goater Way due to existing properties. This means that EVERYONE leaving Goater Way (and subsequently Edwards Drive / Holloway Mews) HAS to cross to the other side of the road.

It is truly only a matter of time until there is a serious accident and/or injury, whether it be vehicular or pedestrian or both, due to the lack of a proper crossing.

A zebra crossing may be a consideration, along with traffic calming and signs for vehicles heading both ways on the B3037.

This needs to be addressed as soon as possible. It is VERY DANGEROUS and PRECARIOUS TO CROSS WITH NO CROSSING IN PLACE!
