Petitioning Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio and 3 others

Change the separate entrance policy; Create CAB Designated Seat on GMHC Board; Reinstatement of activist client, Joseph Sellman

It is a "Jim Crow" like situation that stigmatized HIV-positive people. The nation's largest AIDS service provider organization, Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) should  not be condoning such actions and is being charged by clients with going along with realtors in this blatant form of discrimination. This has been an ongoing dispute since  the agency agreed to a multi-year lease with realtors in 2011. The building has a main entrance shared with tenants including The Associated Press and WNET in a commercial section  on the westside in New York City. But GMHC clients and visitors are discouraged by the organization's staff when the Board of Directors and its CEO, Dr. Marjorie Hill  agreed to the lease in 2011. The clients are directed to a separate GMHC entrance by the main building staff members when clients attempt to gain entry to the building though the main entranceway.

Letter to
Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio
Chief Executive Officer, Gay Men's Health Crisis, Inc. Mr. Kelsey Louie
Co-Chair, GMHC Board Roberta Kaplan, Esq.
and 1 other
New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman
I support the struggle that is currently being wages by your clients at the Gay Men's Health Crisis in New York City, where consumers are being required to use a separate entrance in order for them to access the HIV services being provided by your organization. I support the position that stigma, discrimination and fear are such driving factor in the ever increasing numbers of HIV/AIDS cases in this country. I urge that you find it in your heart to do the right thing and support these concerns as raised in this petition, including allowing for a CAB-designated seat on the GMHC Board of Directors, addressing the discriminatory policy of a separate entrance, in wish clients are required to use, in addition to the reinstatement of Mr. Joseph Sellman, who has clearly been the subject of a campaign of intimidation and discrimination as a client with your agency.
