Don't Increase Fees

Don't Increase Fees
The issue
Melbourne University recently submitted a report with other Group of Eight universities encouraging the government to deregulate university fees for some courses, or raise fees by up to 50%.
Deregulation would allow universities to determine the amount that students must pay for certain degrees. When these measures have been introduced in other countries such as the US, UK and Canada, students have seen massive increases in the costs of their degrees, and consequently face greater debt when leaving university.
Our university should be standing with us to demand greater public funding for higher education, not pushing policies that result in unaffordable education for many students. This petition will be sent to the Vice-Chancellor Glyn Davis, to demand that he consider student welfare before pushing policies that are detrimental to the student body.
Education is a right not a privilege.
