Increase Road Safety Measures for Children at Waterwells Primary Academy, Kingsway
The Issue
Road safety outside of schools should be a highly prioritised agenda item, to protect our children from being hit by vehicles.
Waterwells Primary Academy is a large primary school and pre-school (ages 3-11) and sits on a busy access route in Kingsway.
During drop off and collection times, parents are rushing around and many are parking irresponsibly or illegally outside of the school, causing congestion and blind spots for pedestrians (particularly children) who are trying to cross the road.
There have been many dangerous situations in recent years and this morning (15th Nov 2021) an 8 year old girl was nearly hit by a driver who wasn't looking at the road ahead when they moved away.
This road has limited road markings and minimal parking spaces for these busy times. We require more road signage, clear road markings and ideally 2-3 zebra crossings on the three sides of the school. Traffic warden or PCSO attendance would also be a good deterrent in the short term. If a Road Crossing Attendant (Lollypop Person) could be employed by the Robinswood Academy Trust, this would also help protect our children's safety.
Please sign this petition to keep our children safe and obligate the Council, Highways Agency and the Schools own Academy Trust to take immediate action. This needs to happen BEFORE a child is seriously injured or killed. Thank you in advance for your support.
