My son is 19, he has gone through special school and specialist college without any of the professionals picking up on the fact he is autistic and has ADHD. The last 3 years Gloucestershire county council/2gether trust has severely failed him to the point where this is the second time he has been sectioned under the mental health act. The first time he was discharged 'without' a diagnosis of any kind....Second time he is miles away from home and also after only being in the unit for 2 weeks he was diagnosed with ASD/ADHD. So why wasn't this picked up years ago when he was struggling with anxiety and behaviours that could be challenging.??? ...Why did they just wait until he couldn't cope anymore? Why was he sectioned when he could have been treated locally? This all could have been avoided if the proper care was offered....now he's locked away, very unhappy and withdrawn.....please help us get him home where he belongs and to have the right treatment....young people with ASD should not be in an ATU !!!!
