No more off licences required in Barton

No more off licences required in Barton
The Issue
Residents and Councillors feel yet another shop with off licence will attract more anti-sociable behaviour in an area that is already struggling with increased litter, street drinking, violence etc.
Councillor Sajid Patel supports our objection and says:
"I fully understand and share the strength of concerns raised by residents living in St James Street, Barton Street and other surrounding streets in Barton, especially those neighbouring the above mentioned premises who would be significantly affected, and I therefore fully support their objections."
• Such a business will lead to increased traffic congestion on St James Street. > >
• There are genuine concerns for the safety and well being of residents and particularly school children using the area as there is a primary school (St James) within approximately 100 yards of this building. > >
• There is insufficient parking on St James Street and also no available parking spaces on Barton Street within close proximity of the above premises. > Parking is a major problem throughout Barton & Tredworth as most houses do not have off road parking such as driveways/garages. It is also worth remembering that the majority of households in the area own at least one car, and in a lot of cases two cars or more. > >
• This type of business could potentially lead to anti-social problems and crime in the area, and therefore have a negative impact on the lives of the local residents and school/school children. > >
• Last week I witnessed a delivery at the premises. A huge arctic lorry was parked partly on the pavement and partly on the the road in front of the premises on Barton Street (on the blind bend on the road) causing all sorts of dangerous problems for passing vehicles (including busses) and also for the safety of pedestrians too. If consent is granted this would unfortunately become an unacceptable regular occurrence. > >
