Mr. Akmen, theater critique, author, newspaper columnist and activist for free speech has been criticizing Ministry of Culture, Republic of Turkey, of recently submitted legislation limiting the state sponsored funds, interfering what to and not to stage along with increasingly applied political pressure compromising traditional, secular, positive and productive theater productions. Mr. Akmen made a point, in one of his recent articles, that the Minister of Culture & Tourism  has not ben qualified for the job as what Turkish People needed was an acculturated authority in that position since the background of the Minister of Culture and Tourism has been political science and related fields, not related to culture and/or tourism. This review has been perceived by the Ministry as a personal insult intentionally extended to the Minister himself hence Ministry's filing a suit YTL10,000 -- approximately $4,500 -- fine.
