Plastic pollution has become one of the gravest threats to our oceans, marine life, and human health. Each year, millions of tones of disposable plastic items- bottles, bags, cutlery, wrappers enter waterways, breaking down into microplastics that persist for centuries.

We call upon the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), global environmental agencies, and national governments to:

Enact an immediate global ban on single-use plastics for packaging, cutlery, bags, and other disposable items starting with countries most affected by plastic pollution.
Launch a Plastic Waste Reduction Initiative to phase out existing single-use plastics within 3 years, and promote alternatives: compostable packaging, reusable items, recycling, and waste-management infrastructure.
Implement mandatory waste-management systems for all coastal and riverfront communities to prevent plastic leakage into oceans.
Fund and support public awareness campaigns about plastic’s long-term environmental and health impacts, and incentives for businesses to adopt sustainable practices.
Why it matters now:
Plastic production and waste have skyrocketed: what used to be a convenience- cheap and disposable packaging has turned into a global environmental crisis. With marine debris and microplastics threatening biodiversity, human health, and coastal communities, the time to act is now.
