Stop GUSD Waste of Public Lands and Funds
The Issue
NOTE: There is no fee to sign this petition and you do not have to pay anything.
Since 2012, Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) has been dealing with private developers to sell school (public) lands.*
In 2017-2018, GUSD Board almost sold part of its prime school land to Carmel Partners - a San Francisco private developer, recently busted for corrupt practices in Los Angeles.**
The land GUSD seeks to sell is in the center of Glendale and part of the Allan F. Daily High School, with over 200 students.
Although GUSD announced that it broke its deal with Carmel Partners in 2019,*** GUSD continued to secretly cut down mature trees and bushes from the School site in 2018-2021. (Carmel Partners' plan included removal of numerous trees.****)
South Glendale - where the School site is - has over 120,000 people, overcrowded schools, and no park (except for a few pocket parks).
WE DEMAND that GUSD Board (and City of Glendale) stop its shady deals with developers, stop the waste of public lands and funds, and restore the School site by planting new trees and bushes where they were cut down.
WE DEMAND that school public land(s) be used for schools or sold only to a public agency to be turned into a park - for the beneficial use of school and general public.

NOTE:
1. The development offered on the School site in 2017-2019 was a 5-6-level luxury apartment complex, with rent starting at $2,600 for a single unit; GUSD must be pursuing something similar now. Also, Glendale has no rent-control for this type of buildings after 1995. See http://astanehelaw.com/2020/04/04/glendale-rent-control/
2. The evergreen blooming bushes on this petition photo were cut down in 2018, followed by the removal of several mature trees and severe pruning of the others.
