Gleb Glebov's position as sessional instructor at SFU should be contested
The Issue
Gleb Glebov is an instructor who had his position at FIC terminated due to videos he uploaded publicly on YouTube, where he expressed overtly homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic and religiously discriminatory views. When his name is searched on Google, the first result is this CBC article, which details both his termination and the BC Human Rights Tribunal's dismissal of his subsequent complaints.
Gleb Glebov has been hired by SFU as a sessional instructor for the evening course of EDUC 313 Numeracy in Society. This course is one of few options that teacher education students in the secondary stream can take to satisfy a graduation requirement. Given that students in the program are expected to demonstrate program goals which include "an openness to worldviews" and "celebrating diversity", it is unacceptable that they should pay to be educated by an instructor who so clearly violates them.
The integrity of the program and the safety of teacher education students -- particularly women and LGBTQ+ students -- is in jeopardy so long as Gleb Glebov remains a sessional instructor for our program.
Please sign this petition to let SFU know that we will not stand for an instructor who opposes diversity.
