GLASTONBURY: Support Local Businesses that support local culture

The Issue

The deconstruction of the fabric of British Towns and Villages moves on apace. There are a variety of issues, no buses to get people around, lousy internet speeds, very rich people moving in and organising networks of influence which sometimes work against community - some of the rich may be horrified to learn of their impact as they moved here for what the locale offers, the closure of pharmacies in local supermarkets and those left behind in towns being swamped by demand, the banks leaving quite local towns and having to go to cities for certain tasks, but importantly the town or village centre, apart from issues as with Glastonbury, about it representing the Heart of Avalon (whatever you believe that to mean), then there's the solid framework of services and in this case, as mentioned: The pharmacy, where the health service is under deconstruction, where the pharmacist becomes a doctor you can actually see - is now under threat in the town of Glastonbury. This is very, very serious and this petition is to try to keep it open and a letter to its CEO pointing out that if everyone who signs a petition takes on abstaining from shopping at any nearby Boots - then their cost cutting exercise founders immediately - this is not about the threat, this is simple consumer behaviour. Glastonbury, bless it's heart, lost its own banks and then cleverly offered one financial business if it came to town which it did - certainly a pharmacy will come too - but that does not help the workers who look very sad indeed in this latest gesture by the Boots CEO Sebastian James (Sebastian James was formerly CEO of Dixons Carphone) so he'll certainly know a lot about business - but does he understand that health relates to the health of a community? If you know the pharmacies in the district you'll know that this group of workers in Glastonbury keeps smiling no matter what the pressures on them. Boots itself is part of the Retail Pharmacy International Division of Walgreens Boots Alliance. Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. is an American multinational holding company headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, which owns the retail pharmacy chains Walgreens in the US and Boots in the UK, as well as several pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution companies. It says of itself: "Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) Is a Trusted, Global Innovator in Retail Pharmacy. WBA's purpose is to create more joyful lives through better health". OK then Wallgreens, snap to it and make your words real. I don't live in Glastonbury but I like so many others come to Glastonbury often (and went to Boots there today) and I have been doing so since 1970 so I don't want to meddle - but this needs action NOW! Please sign and share: Not only in Glastonbury, not only in Somerset, not only in the UK, nor Europe, but everywhere where you know that Glastonbury is special! Yes this is a political issue but it has serious ramifications on much, much deeper levels. Please support this petition today.

Terry FlaxtonPetition StarterI'm a local. I've been interested in local politics for years as they resonate at a very deep level with the national psyche. I am passionate about retaining a sense of the Heart of the UK - because that's where I was born.
