Save the trees in Kelvingrove Park

The Issue

Glasgow City Council have a plan to cut down the majority of the trees in Kelvingrove Park.

They want to 'return the park to its original designed landscape', which was mostly grass. This is the actual reason given for the clear-cutting by council officials in emails and on-site visits and it is in the Park Management Plan. Yet it is absolutely contrary to what the public wants: in the Council’s own public consultation the main priorities identified by park users were “trees, woodlands and nature reserves”.

In the photo above you can see a recently clear-cut length of riverbank along the River Kelvin. Soon all of the riverbank and in fact all the wooded areas in the Park could look like this.

Sign this petition to persuade the Council to drop this policy and instead protect the wooded areas in the park for the benefit of park users and wildlife.
