CFMEU NSW started this petition to Gladys Berejiklian (Former politician) and

Construction workers and their families in locked-down Local Government Areas in Sydney's South West and West are doing it tough.

The NSW Government's total shutdown of construction in those 8 LGAs and the restriction on leaving the area means tens of thousands of construction workers are unable to work at all.

The Sydney industry cannot function without workers from these locked-down areas. Some builders have said up to 80% of their workforce live in these LGAs.

The NSW Government has taken steps to get the construction industry back up and running but they need to modify restrictions on workers to avoid bringing the industry and the economy to its knees for the long term, which will make the state’s recovery from the pandemic much more difficult.

Construction is an industry that understands how to manage risk and we have proven over 16 months that we can stay safe and minimise the risk of exposure on sites. Construction operates in mostly open-air environments where the transmission risk is low and workers are experienced in working in accordance with strict safety protocols.

The CFMEU and workers and builders in the industry are calling on the government to allow construction workers in the 8 locked-down LGAs to return to work .

The Sydney construction industry has already put all necessary protocols in place to make sure return to work is safe and we want answers now!

Send a message to Premier Gladys Berejiklian, the NSW Cabinet and local members of the NSW Parliament in support of Sydney construction workers.
