Petition updateQuiet! Glacier National Park - Restore the Natural SoundscapeQuiet! Glacier going strong!
Friends for a Quiet! Glacier Coalition
Mar 7, 2017
Ten months ago, Quiet! Glacier started this petition to help Glacier National Park take back the quiet – to address the adverse impact commercial overflights have on Glacier’s visitors and wildlife. There is more to do, and this update is to let you know that we are doing it! Twenty-six amazing organizations have signed on to Friends for a Quiet! Glacier Coalition. Meanwhile, people from 43 countries and every state have signed this petition. 3300 people have left comments and statements about how important it is to have places where we can experience the serenity of natural sounds. Work continues on many levels to help NPS emphasize the need for restoring the quiet to the first International Peace Park and World Heritage Site, World Biosphere Reserve defacto Wilderness. o This is a noise pollution issue, not an aviation issue. o Glacier is one of the most accessible national parks in our nation. We should be reducing noise for visitors to enjoy, not chopping up the natural sounds and space with the thwapping of a helicopter. o Too many visitors and wildlife are affected by the noise pollution a relatively few people are causing. We appeal to native Montanan and new DOI Ryan Zinke, to support the elimination of commercial overflights because of the disturbance and negative impact the noise has on the visitor experience and wildlife, and to protect the natural soundscape for all present and future generations. You might wonder 'what more can I do?' Spread the word! Its true there is a lot of other noise in daily news - but the more we can press for the importance of quiet places like Glacier, the closer we get to being able to think without noise and find solutions to other problems too.
