The Issue

I’ve started this petition to ask Rogers Media to bring back the name we know and love, and that means so much to Torontonians and Blue Jays Fans. I’m calling on Rogers to officially change the name of the Rogers Centre to SkyDome or Rogers SkyDome. It’s time to reclaim the name that made the home of the Blue Jays so unique.

The name SkyDome holds a deep cultural and historical significance for Toronto and Canadian sports fans that the corporate rebranding to Rogers Centre has never been able to replace. Opened in 1989, SkyDome was more than just a stadium—it was a symbol of innovation and national pride as the first stadium in the world with a fully retractable roof. The name itself evokes a sense of wonder and uniqueness, something that resonated with fans of the Blue Jays, the Argonauts, and countless concertgoers who experienced once-in-a-lifetime moments under its iconic roof. For many Torontonians and Canadians alike, “SkyDome” is tied to cherished memories, including the Blue Jays’ World Series championships in the early 1990s, making it a brand rooted in community and legacy rather than corporate ownership.

By contrast, the renaming to Rogers Centre in 2005 has always felt more like a marketing move than an authentic identity for the stadium. While corporate naming rights are common in modern sports, they rarely inspire the same loyalty and affection as original, culturally significant names. Reverting to SkyDome would restore a sense of authenticity, history, and emotional connection that Rogers Centre has failed to achieve in nearly two decades. The change would not only honor the venue’s innovative past but also strengthen its branding as a landmark destination that belongs to the people, not just a telecommunications company. Ultimately, “SkyDome” reflects the spirit of Toronto far more than “Rogers Centre” ever could.

Even Toronto’s own Grammy Award-winning artist, The Weeknd, has made it known that he wants the name SkyDome to return.

Will you join me and add your name? Let’s make this season one to remember, so that new generations of Jays fans like my seven month-old son can make their own memories. Together, we can help bring back some of that World Series winning magic at a place we all know and love as SkyDome.  #OurSkyDome.
