We deserve a choice in what we believe in

This issue isn't just a societal problem; it's personal. When asked, countless individuals report that they have never been taught about natural selection in school. This omission denies them an opportunity to name a fair choice between faith and science, which is an appalling bias ingrained in our education system. 

As a society, we should aim for complete and comprehensive education. An understanding of natural selection—and science as a whole—is vital to promote informed decisions and critical thinking. Yet, regardless of this clear necessity, most curriculums continue to remain silent on the topic.

Natural selection is no fringe concept. It's a fundamental tenet of modern biology. Internationally respected establishments like the National Academy of Sciences stress upon its importance ("Teaching Evolution", National Academy of Sciences, 1998). Despite that, its absence from many educational settings is evident. 

The very few schools who extensively touch on the idea only teach evolution in late secondary school years, but this should not be the case. Our minds learn and adapt better the younger we are, by the time we reach secondary school, religious belief is so ingrained that we cannot even imagine an alternative. This makes the so called "choice" that they barely have between religion and science biased and unfair.

Let's challenge this bias in our education system. It's time we equip our future generations with the tools to navigate the complexities of the world, not shield them from it. This begins by making the teaching of natural selection a mandatory part of the school curriculum, giving everyone the chance to balance their spiritual beliefs against the beauty of scientific thought.
