Give Thornton Railway Station its Correct Name

The Issue

Thornton's railway station has been incorrectly identified since it opened in 1992.

The name of "Glenrothes with Thornton" was enforced due to the source of the funding used to create the railway station, despite Glenrothes town centre being 3.4 miles away by road.  Markinch station is only 2.3 miles but makes no reference to Glenrothes.

Many travellers through the years have alighted at Thornton station in the belief they've arrived at their final destination of Glenrothes.  Many ScotRail staff don't even realise the station is not in Glenrothes when selling tickets.

This petition is not just about a name; it is about our identity, location, and the pride of living in Thornton. Making a change in the name of the rail station will help in correctly identifying our location, benefiting the local population and travellers alike.  Renaming it to "Thornton" would not only justly represent the community but would also provide clarity for commuters and visitors to our wonderful town.

We are therefore calling on ScotRail to rename our rail station to reflect its actual location – Thornton.

Please show your support by signing this petition. Your backing can make this all-important name change happen, and accurately put our acclaimed community of Thornton on the map.

Your support is essential to meet the requirements of the ScotRail policy for station name changes.
