My friends,
In just a few days, thousands and thousands of citizens to call for a end to gun violence and school violence. "The March for our lives" is a powerful and strong message that is reverberating across the country and around the world. It is a living testament to the brave youth who a month ago in Parkland, Florida suffered the most tragic nightmare anyone could ever face, a school shooting that claimed 17 precious lives.
But there is another reason why I will be marching on Saturday, the 24th of March, because of another form of violence that is claiming dozens and dozens of lives every single day, what is it?
The answer: Bullying and Bully-cide
Many youth who have endured such bullying because of the preference of gender, challenges (be it physical or mental), nationality, etc. and also being bullied online have suffered major consequences, including depression, anger, etc. and the unthinkable consequence...BULLYCIDE! This final and tragic result leads to such things including grief for the families and friends the life that was lost, anger, and a sense of helplessness that something should have been done.
I have watched in the past few days the incredible groundswell of people standing up for our youth and saying with a loud roar: "Enough is enough! One life lost is One Life too too many!" And for that I cannot thank you enough, words are few and far between.
I would like to make a challenge to you all and ask for your support and help to make history this week and more importantly, this week upcoming
I am declaring March 18th - 24th as:
"The week of standing up, speaking out and saving lives."
As we get closer to the historic "March for our lives" on Saturday, I am going to ask 3 things of you and I ask for your support:
First, let's promote this petition to tell our leaders across the world that: "Bullying/bullycide isn't just a passing fade anymore, it has become criminal and a violation of civil, moral and universal rights everywhere"
By using social media (I.e. Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc.) using the hashtag: #OneBillionRisingAgainstBullying #OneBillionRisingAgainstViolence #NotOneMore or #EnoughIsEnough and share some of the facts on your page about bullying and bullycide and how bullying has affected you.
Secondly: Contact your friends who are either going to the main march or the local version of the marches and tell them about the petition so that they can share this petition with others about it. The more people we can get hear about this, the better the chances our voices sincerely will be heard not just state wide and nationwide, but worldwide sincerely!
and the Third and most important thing: Can we tell our friends in schools this week (elementary, jr/sr high school, college, etc.) about this petition. This march will be a critical point in human history, because our youth's future is at stake very sincerely.
Jack layton (1950-2011) who had the same passions as I have, said something profound to his constituents in Canada, which deeply speaks I think to all of us in his letter before he lost his valiant battle to ailment this:
"Love is better than anger, Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than Despair. So let us be loving, hopeful, optimistic and we'll change the world!"
You and I can be the change that our youth need. Let's make this a week to remember and let's stand together sincerely! Let's move onward, upward, forward and beyond together this week and reach #OneBillionStrong
Very sincerely yours
