Social Cultural Space Tetova is a community of independent people who interact, create and cultivate the natural human culture of functioning in equality. The ideals of Space consist of creating a healthy community and a public space that belongs to everyone, to be used in many ways, group or individual, based on culture, art, education, literature, equality and raising awareness of the citizens on many sensitive topics for our society.

Our community exists since 2018, when together with Toestand - Brussels and Termokiss - Prishtina, we renovated the space of the former Radio Tetova, which was abandoned and neglected for more than 10 years. The space is maintained voluntarily by active members of our community. The way of functioning is 100% horizontal, while decisions are taken unanimously, with open votes in the usual open meetings where anyone who is interested in organizing an activity or becoming a member can participate.

The issue we are facing and for which we are asking public support through this petition is elaborated below:

In a vain official document and without prior warning, disregarding our tireless voluntary contribution, on Monday (17.10.2022), the Municipality of Tetova issued a decision (added to the email) where it requires us within 5 days (until Friday, 21.10.2022) to evict Space where we have been operating for 4 years as a community at the service of citizens. 

In the above-mentioned document, only the decision is conveyed that the Unit for Culture and Sports of the Sector for Public Activities is determined to be responsible for the coordination of any activity that will take place in Space (a space which we found abandoned, we have revitalized, brought it up from 0 by renovating and intervening in several instances, and have given life to in the last 4 years with countless activities and unsparing voluntary contribution for the good of society, from all members of our community).

Moreover, with this decision, the Municipality of Tetova violates the memorandum signed by itself, where Space holds the right to use the space until April 2024. By doing so, they have compromised the flow of our on-going weekly & monthly activities in cooperation with many other local and international organizations.

Through our tireless attempts to meet with representatives of the Municipality of Tetova and the Mayor, we have so far managed to delay (and not withdraw) the eviction order for one more week (until 30.10.2022) through an official email from the Municipality where we were notified that the eviction notice still stands.

What we ask of you with great hope and regret at the same time (in case our request submitted to the Municipality for clarification/cancellation of this sudden decision is disregarded) is public and moral support. You can do this by signing this petition to prove to our municipality that the existence of Social Cultural Space Tetova is crucial to the people! Our entire struggle remains for a safe and healthy society, not to violate the citizens' right to an independent and self-sustaining public space like Space Tetova, not to violate the right to expression, creativity and the desire for change, and especially not to destroy the culture of volunteering. We ask for your support for the Social Cultural Space of the city of Tetova!
