Jackie Gonzales started this petition to Mayor, city of Albany, New York Mayor Kathy Sheehan

Walkable Albany started this petition to ask Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan to give pedestrians a walk signal at every light cycle at the new traffic signals installed at the State St./Henry Johnson and State/Lark intersections (rather than requiring pedestrians to press a button to trigger a walk signal).

Details:

The city installed new traffic lights for cars and pedestrians at the State St./Henry Johnson and State St./Lark St. intersections.

Unfortunately, these lights are triggered by beg buttons-- meaning, pedestrians have to hit a button just to get a walk sign.

Cars get an automatic greeen, but the families, people in wheelchairs, elderly people, and children who are on foot have to push a button just to receive a light to cross safely.

These are intersections with heavy foot traffic that merit a pedestrian signal with every light cycle.

The old lights at this intersection gave pedestrians an automatic walk signal. Why should the city move backward in terms of pedestrian safety when we could be moving forward?

Please, Mayor Sheehan, automate these pedestrian lights so that city of Albany residents can cross safely.

For those reading this: please share this petition with anyone who know who uses these intersections and would like to be able to walk across the street safely.
