In the face of calls by GOP county executive candidate Esther Wells and her supporters for general election debates, Democratic nominee Will Jawando says no. 

We, the undersigned Montgomery County voters, call on both candidates for Montgomery County Executive to participate in at least one publicly accessible, nonpartisan general-election debate or forum before Election Day.

Montgomery County voters deserve the opportunity to hear the candidates for County Executive address the issues facing our community and respond to the same questions in the same setting.

We recognize that candidates have participated in forums and other events during the campaign. However, voters should also have an opportunity during the general election to hear both candidates together, responding to the same questions and addressing the same issues.

We therefore respectfully ask the campaigns, civic organizations, community groups, and local media to work together to arrange at least one nonpartisan, publicly accessible general-election forum or debate, with equal opportunity for both candidates to participate.

This petition is about giving Montgomery County voters a meaningful opportunity to hear from both candidates before they vote.
