The Issue

Twelve-year-old Mimi Torres was found in a bin behind an abandoned house at 80 Clark Street in New Britain. Her life was stolen, and her body left where no child should ever be.

That spot has become a wound in the heart of this community — a reminder of violence, loss, and how fragile life can be. But Mimi’s father, Victor Torres, wants to reclaim that ground. He isn’t asking for pity or profit. He’s asking for the chance to turn pain into peace — to transform that site into a memorial for his daughter and for every family that’s ever faced a similar heartbreak.

By signing this petition, you help send a message:

That Mimi’s name deserves light, not silence.
That a grieving father should have the right to preserve the place where his child was found and make it stand for love, not horror.
That our community believes in healing, not forgetting.

This isn’t just about a property — it’s about dignity, remembrance, and hope. Let’s help Mr. Torres turn the place that marked an ending into one that inspires beginnings.

RIP Mimi Torres 🙏🏽

The Decision Makers

Erin Stewart
Former New Britain City Mayor
Responded
[Note from the Civic Engagement Team: The message below is a reply from the City of New Britain Mayor's Office] Thank you for reaching out to Mayor Stewart regarding the petition on change.org. Mayor Stewart has seen the petition and has expressed her sincerest condolences to the family affected by this horrible crime. The abandoned building located at 80 Clark Street is privately owned by an out-of-state absentee landlord who located in New York. As it is privately owned, the City of New Britain has no authority to just grant ownership of the property to Mr. Torres. That decision would have to be made by the current owner of the building and Mr. Torres directly.
