We are asking Granite School District and the District Superintendent to approve new stadium lighting for Hunter High School. The money is already set aside in a capital improvement fund, and they're going to spend it. We're just asking them to allocate part of the funds to our high school.

The current stadium lights do not adequately illuminate the field for nighttime games and events. Visiting teams have made multiple complaints about how dark the field is, and our own students, coaches, families, and community members experience these poor conditions every time an event is held after dark.

This isn't about wanting something bigger, newer, or nicer simply for appearances.

It's about safety. It's about fairness. And it's about giving Hunter High students a facility that adequately supports the activities taking place on that field.

Football is a fast, physical sport. Players, coaches, officials, athletic trainers, and spectators need to be able to clearly see what is happening on the field. When lighting is inadequate, it creates unnecessary concerns for everyone involved.

And this issue extends beyond one football team.

Hunter High's stadium is a gathering place for students, families, visiting schools, and members of the West Valley City community. Our students deserve to take the field under conditions that allow them to safely compete and proudly represent their school.

Our community is asking Granite School District to take action.
We respectfully ask the Superintendent and Granite School District to:

Recognize that the current stadium lighting at Hunter High School is inadequate.
Review the complaints and concerns regarding visibility during nighttime games.
Prioritize the safety of Hunter High students, visiting athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators.
Approve the necessary funding and/or authorization to replace or substantially upgrade the stadium lighting system.
Hunter High School students should not have to continue competing on a field that other schools are describing as too dark.

Our athletes work hard. Our coaches give countless hours. Our families and community show up week after week to support these students.

It's time for our district to show up for them, too.

We aren't asking for luxury.

We're asking for adequate lighting. We're asking for a safe place for our students to compete. We're asking for Hunter High School to receive the attention and investment our students deserve.
