Give Hattersley the Community Activity Centre It Deserves
The Issue
This petition began as a campaign to save local boxing opportunities. It has now evolved into a wider community campaign to secure a Community Activity Centre for Hattersley, including boxing, sport, education, arts and activities for residents of all ages.
As a Hattersley resident and boxing coach, I've seen first-hand the difference that positive activities and good role models can make in a young person's life.
Hattersley is a proud community with great people, but many residents feel there simply isn't enough available for older children, teenagers, families, older residents, and those with disabilities or additional needs. Too often we hear complaints about young people hanging around the streets, yet there are very few affordable places for them to go, learn new skills, stay active and socialise.
A Community Activity Centre would give local people a safe, welcoming place to come together. It could provide activities such as boxing, fitness, dance, arts, educational workshops, youth clubs, support groups and community events for people of all ages.
As someone who has spent many years coaching boxing, I have seen how sport and community activities can build confidence, improve mental wellbeing, teach discipline and create lifelong friendships. Every young person deserves the opportunity to fulfil their potential, regardless of their background.
With up to £20 million being invested into Hattersley through the Pride in Place programme over the coming years, we believe now is the perfect opportunity to create a lasting community asset that will benefit generations to come.
It's about creating opportunities for our young people, supporting local families, reducing isolation, improving wellbeing and giving our community something to be proud of.
Please sign this petition and help us show that Hattersley wants a brighter, stronger and more connected future.
