Imagine your cat going out one day and never coming back. What happened to them? Cats are one of the only pets to be able to roam freely yet they don’t have the same rights with the law as other animals. Why? It is becoming a law to have all cats microchipped in the UK. So why not make it so if a cat is injured/killed in a road traffic accident, the person involved has to take action, report it and take the cat to the vets? So many people are left wondering where their beloved pet has gone because it is not required by law to report when you hit a cat. This is wrong, and the affect is has on your mental health is detrimental. Why is there a law coming into place that you have to microchip a cat or you get fined for if it gets LOST, but if that same species of animal gets injured or killed it doesn’t matter? Why do cats get different treatment to dogs, cattle, mules etc because they’re ‘pets’ and not ‘working animals’? Cats deserve more than this, and so do the owners of the hundreds of thousands of cats that have gone out one day and never returned home. Cats aren’t pets, they’re family. Just as a dog or any other animal is. They deserve more.
