Every day, I witness a heartbreaking scene on Sandy Hook Road. A dog, chained and neglected, is left outside with no human interaction or love. This dog is given only the bare necessities to survive and knows nothing else but the small area it can reach on its chain. This sight is not only deeply saddening but also a stark reminder of how we can mistreat animals that have proven their loyalty and love for humans time and again.

Dogs are not just pets; they serve as police dogs, service animals for those in need, and most importantly, as companions who offer unconditional love. Yet this particular dog has been denied all these opportunities by its owner who has shown a pattern of neglecting his dogs.

In Goochland County alone there are thousands of reported cases of animal abuse each year (source: Goochland County Animal Control Annual Report). It's time we take action against such cruelty in our community.

We demand that the authorities require this dog's owner to surrender it immediately to Goochland Animal Control. Furthermore, we insist that this individual be prohibited from owning dogs in the future due to his history of neglect.
