Disney's Tarzan isn't just any movie. It's a masterpiece, a cornerstone of my love for the magic of Disney!! It was released in 1999 and was the last movie of the Disney Renaissance. It's one of my favorite Disney movies ever! Not only that but it's also the best Tarzan movie adaptation in my opinion Well yes, many of the other ones were good but I definitely prefer Disney's version! The movie has heartfelt storytelling, unforgettable characters, and a beautiful soundtrack! In many ways, it's also better than the original novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Well yes the books were also good but I still prefer Disney's version in many ways. It's actually considered an improvement of the original Tarzan stories! It made the story feel more touching, friendlier, humorous, and heartwarming!

However, despite everything all the wonderful things about this movie, the movie left a couple of plot holes unexplained such as:

1. Tarzan's parents were shown in the beginning of the the movie but they never revealed who they were, what Tarzan's real name is, and where he came from. According to the original novels, his parents are John Clayton the II and Alice Clayton AKA Lord and Lady Greystoke. The Greystokes are a noble, respectful, and powerful family which makes Tarzan John Clayton the III and the rightful heir to the title. In fact, this part has been left out in most of the other film adaptations!

2. Tarzan never went to civilization although he almost did before getting captured by Clayton and his men. In the end, he became the new silverback of the gorilla tribe and stayed in the jungle. Not only that but Jane and her father stayed with him and adapted to the jungle as well. In the original novel, he went back to go after Jane and to find his place in the world. In the end, he reclaimed his Greystoke birthright and got married to Jane. They became the new Lord and Lady Greystoke. In the movie, they never actually showed Tarzan and Jane getting married but it was mentioned in the follow-ups that were now husband and wife.

3. Clayton, the villain of the story, is another thing that left me puzzled. In the original novels, he's Tarzan/John's cousin William Cecil Clayton who temporarily acquired the title Greystoke after John and Alice never came back from their sea voyage. He was a nice man and was also in love with Jane. They, along with several other people, were on an expedition to search for the remains of John and Alice Clayton. In the movie, he was a very devious and ruthless hunter who was hired to protect Jane and her father Archimedes on their expedition to study gorillas. Near the end, he betrayed them all by revealing his true mission which was to capture and take away the gorillas for profit. Not only that, but they never revealed his first name. He was referred to as "Mr. Clayton" or just "Clayton." They never revealed if he was related to Tarzan or was even part of the Greystoke family although it almost seems unbelievable since Clayton was a very devious man. 

4. They never showed Tarzan and Jane having children. In the original novels, they have a son named Jack AKA Korak. He even falls in love with and gets married to a French girl named Meriem/Jeanne Jaccot. Also, one of the most recent Tarzan ERB novels mentioned that they had a daughter named Charlotte but not much is known about her yet. Well yes, I'm sure Tarzan and Jane have children eventually but I really wished they showed this in Disney's animated franchise and have the story focusing on them!!

There have been a couple of follow ups to the original movie. They are "The Legend of Tarzan," (TV series), "Tarzan and Jane" (movie) "Tarzan Untamed" (video game) and "Tarzan ll." Unfortunately, none of them covered the details that were left out of the original movie especially "Tarzan ll" which wasn't even a sequel but a midquel!! Not only that but most of them weren't nearly as good as the original movie!! I really wished Disney made a Tarzan 3!! The original movie deserved a better and proper continuation that filled any of the plot holes I mentioned before! Unfortunately, I don't think a Tarzan 3 can happen because Disney supposedly doesn't make sequels for their animated classics anymore. Not only that but it's now been nearly 30 years since the movie came out and it might be too late anyway. 

Since Disney can't do any more continuations for the animated franchise, I really think they should give the  beloved movie the live action treatment. I believe it has so much potential!!  This could be their chance to cover anything that was left out of the original animated classic!! This movie deserves and needs the live action treatment!!

Unfortunately, as of now, rumors and speculations are circulating that Disney might have lost the rights to Tarzan. Not only that but I heard Sony recently claimed the rights and confirmed that they're developing their own modern live action take on the legendary classic. Well yes, I'm sure it will be a great movie (or at least I hope it will) but I still think Disney should make their own live action version as well!! To me, and I am sure to many other Disney fans, it's crucial that the reimagining of Tarzan comes from the house of mouse itself. That is why I believe Disney needs to seize this opportunity and produce a live-action remake, one that would allow for a comprehensive exploration of Tarzan's narrative. 

Furthermore, Disney's recent success with live-action remakes of animated classics shows that there is a vast audience looking for these new spins on adored tales. Beauty and the Beast grossed over a billion dollars globally, and Aladdin exceeded all box office expectations (Source: Box Office Mojo). It's clear that a live-action Tarzan, carried by the masterful storytelling that only Disney can provide, could not only succeed in satisfying the fans of the original animated film but also in harnessing a new audience who can cherish it in a completely new way. I believe that Disney can create a live action remake that is bit more faithful to the original novels in a way but still have Disney's heartfelt humor, magic, and charm as well as their own unique twists to the story. Not only that but they can also give the remake a sequel if it leaves us hanging and doesn't cover any of the stuff that the original animated classic left out as well. This could be Disney's chance to recreate their Tarzan franchise!!

Join me in urging Disney to try to reclaim the rights and create a live-action Tarzan that truly expands the original's storyline. So let's stand together, because every voice counts, every signature matters to convince Disney to make this dream a reality. The movie deserves and needs the live action treatment very much!!!
