A week ago, our school community is devastated to learn that Coach Stevie, a beloved teacher and coach, would no longer be with us.  He is a mentor, a guide, and a true inspiration to countless students. His ability to connect with each student individually, understand their personal challenges, and encourage them to reach their fullest potential set him apart as an extraordinary educator. We all think it’s absurd to get departed like this for looking out for his players.

For many of us, he was more than just a coach. He was the person who stood by us, cheering us on during our victories and lending a supportive ear during our struggles. The void left by his absence has affected not only the students but the whole school atmosphere. 

Research has consistently shown that students perform better when they have strong mentors in educational settings. According to a study conducted by the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education, schools with caring and involved mentors see up to a 25% increase in student engagement and academic success. Coach Stevie exemplified this role, consistently going above and beyond to support students both in and out of the classroom.

We understand that decisions in educational institutions are often complex, but the benefits of having Coach Stevie back far outweigh any challenges of re-employment. His unique approach to teaching and coaching inspires students to pursue not only sports but academics and personal growth with equal passion. He lead his team to a final 4 and getting coach of the year by IAABO which hasn’t been done ever in greater lawrence history.

Coach Stevie's departure was sudden and without input from those who are directly impacted: the students and their families. We, as a community, believe that his reinstatement would restore the supportive and educationally enriching environment our school is known for.

This petition is a call to our school’s administration, to reassess the circumstances surrounding Coach Stevie departure and bring him back to the classroom and sports field. By doing so, we not only restore a vital member of our educational community but also reinforce the values of compassion, mentorship, and excellence that our school stands for.
