Give cats the same rights as dogs if run over or injured.

The Issue

At the moment there is no legal responsibility to report or take action if you run a cat over, unlike if you were to run a dog over. It can simply be left unattended and to die in pain and suffering.

Cats should have the same rights as dogs.

My sister-in-laws beautiful 4 year old Barrie got run over and was left by the driver of the car in agony for several hours. It was caught on camera. The driver just didn't care and left him. Poor Barrie had his tail and half his beautiful body squashed, destroying vital organs. He was eventually seen by a vet, but his injuries were too severe and sadly he had to be put to sleep. The family are devastated.

It is unjustified that no one should take responsibility for causing this and to leave the poor animal on the road. A cat, a beloved pet who is a massive part of their families life, taken away in a flash.

To lose a cat is heartbreaking and to think that there is no legal responsibility to do anything if it is sadly run over, is wrong.

I want to see a law that means you have to report it, if you run over or injure a cat and you must also attend to it and not just leave it.

It is true that sometimes it may be caused by accident and the driver may be heartbroken themselves and will attend to it, but this is only if they choose to. They don't have to.

I want this to change so that anyone who accidently or carelessly runs over or injures a cat has to legally report it and attend to it immediately. I want to see cats given the same rights as dogs. Please help support this petition so that our beloved cats get the love, kindness and help they deserve and they are not just left to die or suffer, the driver has to take responsibility or at the very least attend to the cat and to report it.
