Give Captain Rios a U.S.S. Stargazer Spinoff

The Issue

At the time of this writing Star Trek Picard is well into it's second season. And soon enough the third season will come and ago before we know it. But what happens after that? Picard has been confirmed to end at season 3, which brings us to what I want to talk about; a potential episodic series set on the new U.S.S. Stargazer with Captain Cristóbal Rios as portrayed by the talented Santiago Cabrera as the lead. I think a lot of people regardless of their opinion on modern Star Trek in general would agree that Captain Rios is a highlight of Star Trek Picard and an interesting addition to Star Trek as a whole. All of the performances given by the cast are absolutely fantastic, but I think many would agree that Santiago Cabrera is truly something special. The beginning of season 2 of Picard has already set up what could be the perfect setting for a new series. A beautiful new ship named the U.S.S. Stargazer (in honor of Picard's old Stargazer) set in the beginning of the 25th century with a character that from what I can tell a lot of people really like, seems like a great opportunity for something truly special. A new episodic show that isn't burdened with trying to fit into a very specific and established point in the Star Trek timeline like a prequel (no disrespect intended to more recent shows like the highly anticipated Strange New Worlds) can be free to do just about anything and would be something I think old and new fans would love. The new and unknown 25th century is the perfect place to go forward and continue story threads from The Next Generation Era shows we all remember so fondly. In this time period there's still room to bring back TNG, DS9, and Voyager actors to play fan favorite characters like Captain Janeway, Worf, Kira, Riker, etc. The ingredients for a potentially great Star Trek show are all there! Christóbal Rios is a character that you wanna see more of. You want to see what he'll do next. He's a loveable roguish type that really captures the attention of the audience. And with him reinstated in Starfleet as a captain in season 2 of Picard, he could easily make for a fun, unique, and charismatic captain while still keeping those optimistic Starfleet values that fans have to come to expect from a Starfleet Officer. Also a Spanish speaking lead sends the right message. In Star Trek there hasn't really been a whole lot of representation in that area. Certainly not as a lead. Everyone deserves a chance to shine. And what better place to represent the Latino/Hispanic community than on the bridge of a starship? The fans (like myself) asked and petitioned for a Captain Pike series when Star Trek Discovery was airing it's second season... and they actually listened, we're getting Strange New Worlds. I don't want to see potential like this go to waste, Rios, the Stargazer, and the 25th century all deserve to get more time in the Star Trek universe when Picard comes to an end. And for me personally this is the kind of Star Trek series I've been waiting for... this is what I want from a continuation to all the shows I grew up watching. It happened once, and it can happen again, let's tell Paramount this is the direction the fans want to take Star Trek! #captainrios #capitánrios #stargazer
