Give back our trees

Give back our trees
Why this petition matters
KK Nagar, one of the prime locations in Chennai, Tamil Nadu was once covered with canopies of lush green trees. As school children, we have wonderful memories of grabbing some yummy chaat or even an ice cream in the cool shade of these trees.
However, in the last couple of years, KK Nagar has been massacred of these trees. Is “massacre” a strong word? Of course not! They have been brutally taken down, in the name of expanding the streets and accommodating more buildings. These trees that have stood the test of time, weather and age have sadly not been able to stand the wrath of us humans. And these poor beings can not even retaliate to this injustice. The gave us all the could and do nothing but suffer in silence.
Attached to this petition is a small snippet of how Munusamy Salai has changed. Does this place even look the same? I literally grew up here, with this being my daily route to school and my grandfather’s clinic situated in this very locality. It is tremendously unrecognisable.
Trees are by far the most selfless beings on this planet. They give with all their capacity and expect literally nothing in return. No one even cares for them, they flourish on their own. And what do we do? All we do is complain, or even worse move abroad and praise the greenery there. What are we doing to protect our home? Climate change is a serious issue and rather than combining our efforts to combat global warming and climate change, we are doing everything in our power to add to the existing damage. It is saddening to see how badly we treat such selfless beings and still expect Mother Nature to treat us with care and respect. There is only so much She too can bear.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam fought relentlessly for making our country a greener haven. Even after his legacy, actor Vivek continued his wonderful initiative. Let us join our hands to fight this injustice.
This is a small initiative that will raise a tremendous voice against such an enormous issue. With your support, this petition will reach the right hands and we hope to get back what was once a lovely neighbourhood, and by extension a lovely city!
