Give Back: Increase Salary for Teachers

They say that teaching is the most noble of all professions for it creates all other professions. True enough, it is with the hard work and commitment of teachers that one climbs the ladder of success. The knowledge they impart to us and the values they imbibe in us, are invaluable and most vital in our development as persons, as students, and as professionals. It is for this reason that our educators deserve a working environment that sustains the lives of their families as well as their own.

In an article released by ABS-CBN News last January, the Department of Education stated that a Teacher I (salary Grade 11) receives P19, 620 basic salary, while a Master Teacher IV (salary Grade 21) earns P47, 779. Given the living conditions in our country, it is difficult for a teacher to provide for their own and their family's long-term needs with limited financial resources. President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed his eagerness to increase the pay received by teachers following the salary increase of soldiers and police officers. Unfortunately, it was ruled to be unmanageable under the current budget allotment.

In this life-long process of learning, we are all students with a purpose and a responsibility. We encourage you to join us as we appeal for stronger financial support for our educators. They do not risk their lives in the battlefield, but they breathe life to the hopes and aspirations of every learner in the classroom.

Let us unite for our teachers, and stand with us as we strive to give back.
