We call upon East Hertfordshire district and Hertfordshire county councils, in conjunction with Sele Ward Neighbourhood Association, to work with Tarmac to restore community access to Long Wood on the edge of Sele Farm estate. This includes progressing the pending Rights of Way application for the paths through the wood.

For many years it was a community asset where residents could enjoy the woodland and in Spring the carpet of Bluebells. For the past 4 years Tarmac have erected ‘No public right of way’ signs and this autumn have installed wire mesh fencing. This is despite local councillors and Sele Ward Neighbourhood Association engaging with Tarmac to find a mutually workable solution. 

The Sele Neighbourhood Area Plan lists Long Wood as  designated Local Green Space with access for pedestrians and cyclists. It also sets out the requirement for a green corridor between Long Wood and Blakemore Wood to reduce the impact of the planned HERT3 development.
