I haven’t written in a while, but I just had to today because I have some great news to share! This week, a group in Congress announced a tax deal that would expand the Child Tax Credit for 16 million children who were previously left out!
The deal hasn’t passed yet, so we need to act fast- click here to tweet at your Congresspeople so they know you are watching. We need them to vote yes on this bipartisan expansion of the Child Tax Credit before January 29th so families can benefit this year. To make sure that they hear you, tag your Senators and Representatives.
Over three million of us signed on to this petition during a moment when many were facing economic fears. For some of us, we felt these fears for the first time, but for many, living in scarcity was a reality long before COVID. Right now, our elected officials have a chance at making a long-term significant impact with what some call “a poverty-busting tool” — cash in our pockets.
Sixteen million children – more than a fifth of all children – would benefit from this expanded CTC. Like any deal, we know it is not perfect. But let’s move towards progress and toward the goal of making the CTC available to all low-income children.
But we must turn up the volume of our voices now! Remember, if Congress can move fast, then they can make this into law in January so families can claim the expanded CTC when they file their taxes this year.
