We have created a drumbeat from people like you and me calling, signing petitions and taking group actions to ensure that the expanded Child Tax Credit becomes permanent. But we need to turn up the volume. It seems illogical that a policy that is serving this many people and making such an impact would just be erased but it appears that life is often illogical. We have about two weeks to pressure Congress to do the right thing.
Right now is the time because Congress is considering budget legislation, an important step in deciding if these checks will be permanent or not. Remember this expansion means more money to families and in monthly checks so that the money can be more helpful. Research shows that most families are using these checks for basic needs, like groceries, day care, clothes, etc.
Yes, these checks do not reach everyone, but they do reach millions and make a huge impact. In fact, the expanded Child Tax Credit is one of the most effective means of lifting families out of poverty, especially people of color, and it is essential in supporting families as the delta variant rages on.
