Starting in July we will see monthly checks happen. Families will receive up to $300 per child deposited monthly, automatically. This is what we’ve been asking for—recurring checks that we can depend on. But here is the new thing: President Biden has the opportunity to make it permanent. Not just a COVID thing. 

The struggles parents face each month to make ends meet have been there before COVID hit. Two million of us signed on during a moment when many were facing economic fears. For some of us these fears were felt for the first time. Let’s not forget those feelings, that anxiety of how we were going to make it all work. There are lessons in COVID and we must listen. Right now our elected officials have a chance at making long term significant impact with what some are calling, “a poverty-busting tool” — monthly checks. There is no need to go backwards—let’s make this permanent.
