Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois Council has decided to unfairly close it's southernmost camps in Illinois. Camp Whispering Oaks in Salem IL was closed earlier this year. Camp Chan Ya Ta in Worden, Illinois is also on the chopping block. 

Most notably and impactful for farther Southern Illinois is Camp Cedar Point. 

Camp Cedar Point, located in Makanda, IL, has been active for the past 63 years in the beautiful area of Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge and sits on Little Grassy Lake.  

With no notice, and with stacked numbers - a vote was taken to retire this camp and take it away from the girls. This will leave the southernmost Illinois girl scouts with no camp close to them. They will have to travel over TWO HOURS just to get to a council owned camp. 

We feel that there has been a gross mismanagement of money that has led to this decision. Our girls do their duties by selling cookies to help fund their own activities as well as the fund all actions of the council and all paid positions. 

As volunteers and leaders, We are shown very little support! Without volunteers, this organization would not be what it is. It is time that we are allowed to have a voice. 

Please sign this petition to show that we are not a "very small, vocal minority" (as quoted by our CEO in our local newspaper) that wants CAMP CEDAR POINT to stay open!
