The Issue

Musi River is a tributary of the Krishna River in the Deccan Plateau flowing through Telangana state in India. The city Hyderabad stands on the banks of Musi river, which divides the historic old city and the new city. Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar are dams built on it which used to act as source of water for Hyderabad. The river originates in Ananthagiri Hills near Vikarabad. It flows into the Krishna River at Vadapally, near Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district .As it flows through Hyderabad, it turns into a giant sewer, filled with garbage and industrial waste from the city. Years of neglect have earned it the notoriety of being named one of the most rivers in the country. Due to indiscriminate urbanisation and lack of planning, the river has become a receptacle for all the untreated domestic and industrial waste water in the city.  The animal waste from the abattoir finds its way into the river. The faucal matter that also goes into the river is another issue as well. To sum it up the river is being polluted with tons of waste from different sources like industries, people and the waste thrown into the river and the waste flown into the river. We have to take action and do something to stop musi river to get even more polluted and take initiative to clean it up. We have to pressurize the GHMC development and protection of lakes and rivers sector and more department's and sectors related to this to clean up and take initiatives to clean musi river. Also there are things we can do as well to not pollute this river and control the pollution like Always avoid releasing untreated sewage into lakes and rivers as it gets mix with water and pollutes it. Not throwing any solid waste into the water streams as it clogs the flow of water thereby leading to pollution. Avoid releasing construction waste into the river. Use organic gardening techniques and avoid using pesticides and other herbicides.
Avoid releasing harmful chemicals and oils into storm drains or rivers.
Always check that your car engine is not spilling oil that finds its way into drains and then rivers. Volunteering for beach or river clean ups and supporting organizations related to this cause who are fighting for the government to take initiative. Not littering and throwing waste down the drain which directly leads to it going in the rivers.
