The Issue

Holding an election in the midst of a deadly pandemic, is definitely a ritual every nation would wish to avoid. Quite obviously, in Ghana, we are bound to do this because the constitution didn't preempt this dead end. In one word, there will be a "Lacuna", if this does not happen by 7th December, 2020.

It is not even the risk of spreading the pandemic in queues that is the concern. Why? Because,  the just-ended registration seemed to have given us enough confidence. The real threat will be the absence of the usual big campaign rallies that will offer the political candidates the platform to sell their campaign policies to the electorates and for them to also make an informed choice. The absence of these major platforms, is a worry to not only the politicians, but to the voter as well, because predictably the risk of voting in a vacuum is more PANDEMIC than the pandemic.

Luckily, the two leading political parties (NDC & NPP), have both consented that this year's election should be issue-based, more specifically, one based on truck records. We need a presidential debate between the presidential candidates of NDC and the NPP to come defend their records and make a case to merit a new term. Ghanaian voters should please sign this petition to compel for this debate. We the voters need this debate to vote wisely.

Thank you for signing.
