GET THE LEAGUE FOR ANIMAL WELFARE SHUT DOWN

The Issue

The League for Animal Welfare is supposed to be a NO-KILL animal shelter that helps animals in need and finds their loving homes. They are located in Anniston Alabama on Bynum Leatherwood Rd. Instead they kill, abuse, and neglect the animals that come to this place. Sick animals do not get their proper treatment. They are left to die a slow and painful death. This place takes funds from the community that are supposed to be used to help the animals and they keep the money for themselves. During the summer of 2022, I was looking for a job. I found the League for Animal Welfare and decided to apply, because helping animals is one of my biggest passions. I went there and asked to fill out an application. They handed me a volunteer form. When I questioned that, the owner Heather Wilson assured me that it was a job application and it was not a volunteer form and that it was just what they used. That was her way to trick me into believing I actually had a job so that she did not have to pay me when she did not want to. I constantly had to ask for my pay. I was never paid on time and there were many times when I did not get paid the correct amount. I worked there for about a month, and the whole time I was there I saw nothing but abuse and neglect. As soon as you walked into the shelter there was trash all in the floor as well as feces that they would just walk right past and never clean. The smell was awful as soon as you walked in there as well. They told me my job was to clean the cat rooms. They also told me that no one there liked cats and never wanted to do it. The first time I went into the cat rooms I was completely disgusted. There was nothing but feces, blood, and snot all over the cages and walls and floors. None of the cats had blankets. They were left to lay in a hard and cold cage. I immediately noticed many of the cats had horrible eye infections and most were sneezing and they sounded very congested. There is no telling how long they had been like that when I got there. The first thing I did was ask for medicine for their eyes. I also asked if any of the cats had been dewormed and they said no. I then asked if they had any deworming medicine so they could be dewormed and they also said no about that. I took it into my own hands and brought the deworming medicine myself. I was told by a vet tech how much to give them and did it myself. Although they had many health problems deworming them one time was not enough to help them. One day, someone from a cat rescue came and said she was gonna take the cats that were sick. I immediately felt relieved that she was gonna take them and I gladly helped her load them up in her car. My co-worker and I wanted to help the cats so we looked around and found a bunch of blankets for the cats to lay on that were just stacked up in a storage building outside the shelter. Me and my co-workers also used our own money to buy stuff for the animals, because there were many things that the animals needed that they did not have. There are many stories that I could share. There was this one day I saw a cat laid out and half dead. It had trauma to its face. The other awful workers would not even pick the cat up, so I did. This cat was completely feral when it came to the shelter and when I found it, the cat was so weak it did not have the energy to even act like a feral kitten. I told them that it needed to be taken to a vet. It was later in the afternoon, but there were still vet clinics that were open. They loaded the cat into a carrier and said they would take it to the vet. I came to find out they never took it to the vet and brought it back to the shelter. Me and a vet tech that I know went back to the shelter later that day and got the kitten and tried to help it the best she could. Sadly, it passed a few days later.... There is so much picture and video evidence and nothing has been done to this day. These people have no business whatsoever even being allowed to be over this place. These animals deserve justice!!!
