Right now, there are families and individuals living in fear, because their movements and travelling data may be tracked and shared with Immigration & Customs Enforcement. Local law enforcement, including the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, has shared license plate data with ICE to support their deportations, raids, and unwarranted searches of Citizens and immigrants.

This is made possible by Flock Safety, the company that sells AI license plate readers to many law enforcement agencies. These cameras are set up in places like traffic lights, streets, and police cars. More disturbingly, according to DeFlock.org, there are Flock cameras in Douglas County in places like: 3 Flock cameras in Beth El Synagogue, 3 outside the Lowe’s on Dodge & Rose Blumkin Drive, and 4 of them around the parking lot at Village Pointe. License plate and vehicle information from people that are going to the store or to worship should not be information DCSO can share with ICE.

Flock "Safety" claims to support public security through its AI surveillance. However, the use of their data by ICE to conduct raids and detain individuals, often tearing families apart, is a terrible use of technology. Of course, we need modern safety resources, but Flock’s technology is doing more harm than good.

What the supporters of this petition are asking for:

  • Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) must stop sharing license plate data with ICE
  • DCSO must destroy existing data that has already been shared with ICE

Who can fix this:

The Douglas County Commission & Omaha City Council-

Leaders from both Douglas County Commission and Omaha City Council have the power to pass policies that would:

  • Prohibit DCSO from sharing license plate data with ICE
  • Require transparency and oversight of similar surveillance technology in Omaha
  • Redirect funding from these surveillance systems to real, community-based safety resources.
  • Cancel DCSO's contract with Flock and ban ALPR systems from city and county property.

Other cities and counties have already taken similar steps to protect their residents, Omaha can do the same.

Please urge the Douglas County Commission, and Omaha City Council to listen to you and take this step by signing the petition.
