Get the Circle of Magic series by Tamora Pierce back in print!

The Issue

Help us convince Scholastic to re-publish the ground-breaking Circle of Magic series by Tamora Pierce!

In 1997 Tamora Pierce published Sandry's Book- the award-winning first book in the Circle of Magic series. These fantasy books for children feature a diverse cast of characters, found family, adventure, and of course magic. They hold up incredibly well more than 20 years later and should be available to share with a new generation of children!

Tamora Pierce may be best known for her YA series such as The Song of the Lioness, but she has also written excellent fantasy for middle grade readers in the Circle of Magic series. The series demonstrates parenting styles that allow for vulnerability and complex conversations with children.  It promotes equity across race, gender, disability and more - making sure everyone has a seat at the table and shows kids how to craft those dynamics. It highlights healthy relationships between children and adults, as well as effective communication among peers that recognizes what different children can bring to the table. It demonstrates how children are affected by trauma and can heal from it. All within a charming story of found family and coming-of-age while also using magic to save people.

With everything happening in the world, now is the perfect time to bring these books back and get them into the hands of parents, children, and school librarians! Currently they are difficult to find secondhand and often very expensive. The physical books are entirely out of print. Help us show Scholastic that there is an audience for these beloved books and they should take steps to re-publish them in new editions.
